Wanted Wiki Features
Features we would like to see in this wiki (Please post here your wishes):
In terms of contents, those listed in http://www.mapleprimes.com/blog/jakubi/maplewiki > Proposed contents, seem desirable. - Alejandro
Well, wiki is a place where everybody can do whatever he or she wants. Any acceptable contents can be added by anybody who wants it. -- AlecMihailovs 2008-12-28 06:47:19
Sure, this item was an answer to a question by Joe Riel in June. - Alejandro 2008-12-28 21:53:24
A hybrid of Modern(ized) theme with (some) Classic theme icons. - Alejandro
If I understand correctly, you will be the only user of that theme, and it may save you some time by clicking icons instead of using drop-down menu. If you submitted that theme, that would be a resonable request, and I would review it, test, and in the case of positive test results, add it to the wiki. In the form above, when you also expect me to write the code for the theme (which contains a few thousand lines in several files), such a request which would, probably, take a few hours for me to do to save you few seconds, looks unreasonable for me. Nevertheless, it is an interesting thing to try to do, and I am going to spend some of my time (when I will have it) on it. -- AlecMihailovs 2008-12-28 06:47:19
Your evaluation may be realistic, but this request item was posted only because of your message of 3 December: "I could add a new theme with icons - say imodernized and/or imodern, I guess. Would you like to have all action icons from classic in it, or only some of them?". On the other hand, I do not know how to develop such a proposed theme without a server on which to test it. Anyways, may be worth posting this feature request to moinmoin.in? - Alejandro 2008-12-28 21:53:24
The Desktop MoinMoin edition can be installed very easily, without any configuration steps, both in Windows and Linux, and it includes everything necessary for the development. It is a great thing by the way - I use it for personal notes, calendar, and a diary. You, certainly, can post such request on MoinMoin site, but I personally wouldn't. It is something like, say, if you need to walk for a mile, and you stop a random guy on a street and say to him: "I need to be in a place that is a mile from here, and I found convenient that I would sit on your shoulders and you would walk there. Can you do that for me?" -- AlecMihailovs 2009-01-01 05:31:53
Fine, when possible I will try that Desktop MoinMoin edition. I do not find the metaphor fit to this case. Clearly, new themes are being developed with some regularity. But without feedback from the actual users, the developers cannot know which features are desired by them. And I cannot believe that I am the only one person benefited with the addition of these icons. - Alejandro 2009-01-01 17:08:44
I, on the other hand, find that the metaphor fit perfectly. You want something, and you want somebody else do that for you for free. Continuing with that metaphor - what would be a normal way to do in such a situation? - to call a cab, and to pay to the cab driver for driving you there. In some situations, people do hitchhiking, which sometimes is acceptable, and sometimes is not. Frankly, I don't understand why would you expect me to do that, or even ask about that. Asking MoinMoin developers is less problematic, but also questionable, from my point of view. Besides, in addition to developing such a theme, it should be permanently maintained as well - for instance, in 1.8.1 MoinMoin release many things were changed in various themes, especially in the modernized theme, and such things also would need to be changed in your suggested theme with icons. -- AlecMihailovs 2009-01-01 21:02:45
And which would be the cab here? What do you estimate that the "cabdriver" would ask for that job? It is not true that I expect you to do that as an obligation. But in your messages at the beginning of December you seemed to agree that it was a good idea. Maintenance would be indeed a key issue. I guess that any cooked up prototype would need to be "officially" adopted to have future. I do not know how it was handled with previous themes. - Alejandro 2009-01-01 22:51:59
MoinMoin has a bounty page for such things. What a "cabdriver" would ask, depends on his/her hourly rate and the amount of time spent. Glad to know that you don't expect me to do that. I never thought that it was a good idea. Anyway, perhaps, you should put it on your "Gifts that I would like to receive" page instead of the Wanted Features page. From other point of view, looking through the MoinMoin's FeatureRequests pages, I found that you are not alone - quite a few of requests there are of the same type. -- AlecMihailovs 2009-01-03 07:03:10
Make the "Add to" drop menu in Edit generate categories enclosed by [ [..] ] (needed with wiki_math) - Alejandro
I will look into that -- AlecMihailovs 2008-12-28 06:47:19
A repository section were code is contributed in a form ready to download and install, presumably in .mla format. - Alejandro
Any format, including .mla, can be added as an attachment to any page. Currently, MapleAdvisorDatabase is distributed in a different form, but when somebody will find time to make a .mla out of it, it may be distributed in .mla form as well, if RobertIsrael agrees. My code is copyrighted and if I would like to distribute it in .mla form (which I am not currently), I will. The same, I think, is true for other authors. Certainly, you can distribute your code in .mla form if you would like to, and create a repository page for that. -- AlecMihailovs 2008-12-28 06:49:47
In principle, I meant something like http://moinmo.in/MacroMarket. The .mla format is not the main point. Just an idea - Alejandro 2008-12-28 21:53:24
I don't exactly understand what you mean. Our LocalMacros, JsMath/LocalMacros, and LocalParsers are downloadable, the same as in MoinMoin's MacroMarket or ParserMarket. The MapleAdvisorDatabase is also available for download. -- AlecMihailovs 2009-01-01 05:35:22
No, I mean Maple code, collected into a single place for convenience of searching, downloading and uploading contributions. - Alejandro 2009-01-01 17:08:44
So what's the problem? Create such a page if you would like to. Please don't put other people's code there without their permission. I definitely don't want my code be put there. -- AlecMihailovs 2009-01-03 07:03:10
